“John Moeti “Dungi” a true legend”

John Moeti was a legendary Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates midfielder who sadly passed away on 6 February 2023. He earned 29 caps for the South African national side between 1995 and 1999. He won the CAF Champions League in 1995 when Orlando Pirates defeated ASEC Mimosas of Ivory Coast in the final. He also played in the squad that won the 1996 African Cup of Nations. Speaking to Sowetan Live on Moeti’s life in football, Niel Tovey, SA captain for 1996 African Cup of Nations squad said Moeti provided the perfect combination of hardness and skill in coming off the bench, making the tackles, keeping the ball and closing the game. Moeti continued to impart his expertise and disciplines learnt during his career to his community after his retirement with the Truth Foundation, a religion-based initiative where he and his wife taught kids leadership and life skills through football.
